When the Holy Spirit comes upon His people He doesn’t care the age the person is. He just wants willing hearts. Hearts surrendered to hearing His will and speaking His truth. Throughout Scripture You see the Holy Spirit speaking to both the young and the old. Over the last four and a half years we have felt this strong sense that it is vital to teach our own children to hear the Holy Spirit and to grow in their own walk with Him. 

Therefore, during the COVID shutdown we began spending time as a family following Joy Dawson’s steps of intercession. After going through the steps we would wait on the Lord and allow the Lord to speak to each of us. At times we would get very clear pictures and at other times we didn’t understand what God was speaking. But we always sent the words, pictures, songs, etc to those we were interceding for. Over the years we have seen God speak through our children into multiple situations and it has been made clear there is absolutely NO Junior Holy Spirit. Below are a few examples of a few things the Lord has spoken through our children over the years.

Hamburger

We were praying for a woman that is a friend of mine and Esperanza got a picture of a hamburger with all the insides falling out. When my friend received the message she was sitting in her car at the drive thru of McDonald’s crying out to the Lord because she felt like everything was falling apart. When she got my daughter’s message she began to bawl because she knew God saw her in her need.

Dates

Two months before we knew we were for sure moving to Pensacola Gryphin got dates for when we were to move there. The week we ended up moving was the exact dates Gryphin had gotten. 

Broken

Amara got a picture of a house that was broken because there was sin in it and a rainbow overtop the house. As soon as my friend got Amara’s word she sent a picture of a house with a rainbow over it stating that her family had been hugely affected by the sin that had taken place in that house. So much so that she hadn’t been able to talk to anyone about what was going on because they didn’t want the media to get involved and make the matter worse. So having God reveal the situation by a four year old allowed her to process with me what was going on.

God truly loves to speak to our entire family through His Holy Spirit. Does this mean that every time we’ve gotten words as a family for people that it has resonated? No, there have been many times we have gotten words or pictures that we truly have absolutely no clue what it has meant. But the goal is to help our children practice in a safe space so they can learn to listen to the Holy Spirit for others! It is such a vital skill as a believer of Christ. 

If you have small children or even if it’s just you I’d encourage you today to take the time to listen to the Holy Spirit. Allow yourself to get outside yourself and bring encouragement to another person. Your word could be what someone needs to hear today.
