Striving

Abraham heard God speak to leave His family and to go where God was calling him. And he obeyed. Did he make mistakes in the process, oh you bet he did. But he left and walked into the unknown anyways following the Lord one day at a time and this is what mattered to God.

When God spoke to Bruce and I to come to Pensacola He didn’t give us a laid out plan. He just said to go. In my finite little brain I’ve tried desperately to make sense of it all. Multiple times I have found myself striving to figure out all the details to why He called us here. And this morning as I sit and have my quiet time I recall Abraham.

When Abraham strived and looked at his outward circumstances he messed up. But when he surrendered to the Lord and took one day at a time he prospered.

This I truly struggle with. I long to “Do things” and plan!!! But then when He says to “Trust Him one day at a time and He will lead” my flesh starts to freak out.

“But what am I suppose to do next week? Or what’s our 3-5 year plan? It is so hard “Basking. Trusting. Leaning into. One day at a time.” All these words are excruciating for me to choke down when my entire being feels this weight to perform.

And yet God never asked Abraham to perform for Him. God asked him to trust and obey. Yes when God brought things into his path Abraham was faithful with what was put in front of him. But over and over again God just wanted Abraham to trust and obey one step at a time.

This is where we are at. One day at a time following the bread crumbs that God puts in front of us. He has placed amazing ministry teams in front of us, He has led us to a very vibrant church full of passionate people that are serving Him wholeheartedly in and out of the church building.

And as we have walked each day one step at a time it’s been beautiful to see the people God has put in our path. He’s connected us with so many ministries, families and we’ve had multiple Devine appointments that wouldn’t have happened if I had been so busy working on our 3-5 year plan. Will God always keep us in this one day at a time zone? I don’t know. He has already begun to stir some longterm visions into our heart but we desperately want to be SO sensitive to His leading! We don’t want to run out ahead.

One specific connection we made, as we’ve been following God’s bread crumbs, has opened up a door for Bruce to go to Peru. He will be joining a team from our church in October. They will be helping a ministry in Peru get their orphanage ready and Bruce will be their photographer. Not just for the mission team but also for the ministry in Peru (Reimagineworldwide.org). The photos will be utilized for Reimagine’s needs (social media, updating website, and as a fundraising tool). (On a side note they are looking for an Executive Director that can run their orphanage that will launch in August, please share the word)

Are you in a similar situation where God is asking you to take one day at a time? Is He asking you to trust Him at a deeper level and obey Him in the small things? Join with us in following our sweet Lord and become a human “being”, NOT a human “doing”. Basking, leaning into, and enjoying our Savior as He directs each moment.

Prayer Requests:

  • Tumor in Esperanza’s head disappears.

  • Bruce’s cartilage grows back in his foot & bone spurs disappear.

  • We’ve had doctor bills, a broken down van needing to be fixed, and a few other unforeseen costs come up. (You can partner by clicking here).

  • Bruce only needs about $900 for flights to Peru. (Click Here to Partner).
